Smiles, Fun and Awards at GYB & Future Brass Annual Concert

A fantastic afternoon at our Annual Future Brass Concert on Sunday 6th November set in the wonderful venue of Christchurch, Great Yarmouth.
A very large audience were treated to some excellent music and brass playing from both senior band and the next generation of players from Future Brass.
The Programme for the Concert was as follows:
Slaidburn March, Breezin Down Broadway, Grand Fanfare and Lets Begin (Future Brass), Anthem from Chess, Caribbean Variation On A Tune, Sandcastles (Future Brass), Deep Harmony a joint Senior band and Future Brass item, Eleanor Rigby and the foot-Tapping Valero to close.
The Second Half of the Concert opened with The Cross of Honour, a rousing March to get the audience back in the mood after their relaxing tea and biscuits. Following on from this was Hey Jude, Old Pops Was Right (featuring Carl Harrison on Bass Trombone and Emma Philpot on Euphonium), Scipio and Immortals (Future Brass).
At this point during the Second Half came the Future Brass Awards Ceremony. The climax to a previously held Soloist Competition in which every Future Brass player was able to take part. Each players anonymous recorded performance was assessed by an adjudicator the winners were:
First Prize and the winner of the Ron Larkins Memorial Shield was awarded to Jamie Harrison (Trombone) with Sean Edwards (Cornet) and Kumani Debbage (Trumpet) second and third respectively. Jamie and Kumani then performed their brilliantly played solos. There then followed a Solo performed by Kai Hart on Tenor Horn, who ably and proudly demonstrated his award winning bottom Cs playing Happy Birthday using the notes he had learnt in the 3 weeks in which he first started to play.
Other awards were presented as follows: Cortez Bernadas – most improved 1st Cornet Player, Thea Heyes – Best 2nd Cornet, Jack Lovick – Best Beginner Cornet, Finn Ward – Best Horn, Carson Beckett – Best (sight-read) Solo and Joshua Grace – Best Adult Beginner.
The Concert continued with Mexican Hat Dance – a Cornet Trio with a bit of Fun thrown in wonderfully performed by Penny Gilbert, Gemma Eglington and Pete Dowsett. There then followed Apassionata, a lovely Baritone Solo performed by David Stimpson. To close the Concert a joint band performance of King of the Swingers from Disney Fantasy and Barnard Castle to finish. All in all a fantastic afternoon which delighted an appreciative wonderful audience.
All net donations raised during the Concert were presented to GYB Future Brass.
