Future Brass on a High after receiving Grant Award and busy weekend.

Great Yarmouth Brass are thrilled to announce that GYB Future Brass were fortunate to receive a grant from Great Yarmouth Borough Council in commemoration of the Queen’s 90th Birthday. The grant has enabled us to buy new music stands, banners and music folders. Future Brass were able to use the stands and banners at the Minster on Sunday morning for a Civic Service and in the afternoon at a Cliff Park Church Community Fun Day held at Cliff Park Junior School in Gorleston to celebrate the Queen’s 90th.

What a hectic day for the little ones, proudly playing at the Minster during the morning with one or two playing in front of the public for the very first time, having only picked up an instrument a couple of weeks previous. Under the Musical Directorship of Joel Heys the band played a Grand Fanfare, Old Hundreth, March from Scipio and I Vow To Thee My Country, which featured a wonderfully played solo verse by Carson on Euphonium.

How wonderful and rewarding it is to see the enthusiasm and commitment from the youngsters and also the not so young after all Future Brass is open to all ages.

The afternoon event which ran from 1pm til 4pm opened with a tremendous crack of thunder and a deluge of rain but not for long. what followed was more light hearted as the band once again played and a challenge was set to get 90 people to play 90 notes to mark the Queen’s 90th. We are pleased to say the challenge was successful although one or two notes along the way were interesting interpretations but everyone had a great time even so.

The Members of Future Brass would like to thank, Great Yarmouth Borough Council for the Grant they kindly awarded, Great Yarmouth Minster and the organisers of the Civic Service, Cliff Park Church and Cliff Park Junior School for allowing us to participate on such a wonderful afternoon.

Many Thanks from all the Senior Members of GYB to Joel, Joan, Penny, Sarah, Tina and Carl for organising and administering Future Brass and of course to other members of the Senior Band that give up their precious time to encourage and also enthuse the next generation of GYB players.
