Bright End to a Sad Week
The Senior Band are playing at the funeral of Mr Ron Larkins on Monday 29th September (a very sad and poignant day for band members), but the week looks set to end on a brighter note on Sunday when all 3 GYB Bands (the senior band and the 2 bands making up GYB Future Brass) come together for a joint Concert to raise funds for GYB Future Brass.
On Sunday 5th October, a very special afternoon concert will take place at Christchurch, Great Yarmouth, with Great Yarmouth Brass joining forces with the members of its two thriving bands which make up GYB Future Brass (previously known as the Youth and Training Bands, the latter only having been established in March).
There will be a wide range of music from each of the bands, featuring instrumentalists of all ages and abilities, some whose playing career spans several decades and others who literally only picked up a brass instrument for the first time last week!
During the afternoon there will be a performance by the winner of the GYB Future Brass Soloist Competition being held in the week leading up to the concert. He or she will perform their winning solo accompanied by the Senior Band, and will also be the first recipient of the Ron Larkins Memorial Shield, in Memory of ‘Mr Brass Band’ Ron Larkins, who sadly passed away very recently.
There will be a joint finale item, highlighting the inclusive nature, support and team spirit of brass banding.
GYB Musical Director Colin Swaep will conduct the Senior Band and the massed bands item, with Richard Ward and Penny Gilbert (with able support from the DBS checked GYB Training Team) directing the GYB Future Brass performances.
Future Brass will start at 2 p.m. Tickets are just £4.00 (with accompanied children under 16 free of charge) and can be reserved by telephoning the Band Secretary on 01493 844242, or purchased on the door subject to availability. All profits from the afternoon will go to GYB Future Brass. There will be a raffle and refreshments available during the interval.
Please come and support your local Brass Band and the next generation of brass players.
