40th Anniversary Concert

On Saturday 6th July 2013, Great Yarmouth Brass performed their 40th Anniversary concert in the impressive setting of Great Yarmouth Minster.

Nearly 300 of the band’s past members, current members, friends of the band and those simply wanting to enjoy the sound of a traditional Brass band in concert attended the concert. The band would like to sincerely thank all those who attended this great evening of music for supporting Great Yarmouth Brass.

Featured during the evening was the Great Yarmouth Brass Youth Section, under their musical director Richard Ward, performing two of their rehearsed pieces, March of the Cobblers from the film “Brassed off”.

Cornet player Sarah Doe baked two huge cakes, with slices enjoyed by the audience and band members during the interval. A story board with photographs from the last 40 years on display, there were lots of shared memories. Soloists for the evening were Penny Gilbert (cornet) playing “Share my Yoke”, Kingsley Tyrell (euphonium) performing “Benedictus” and Carl Harrison (Bass Trombone) with “I Wanna Be Like you”. In the audience were the Deputy Mayor of Great Yarmouth, band president Ralph Childs, lifetime vice president Ray Welch, former conductor Marilyn Zipfel, the founder of the youth band Fred Wells and special guest for the evening Mr Ron Larkins who retired from banding after 70 years of playing in 2013.

Finally, special thanks to band secretary Joan Stanley for organising us all.
